Old Norse origin
Source-reportedMeaning: “father”
From Old Norse Atli, from late Proto-Germanic *Attilô, diminutive of *attô (“father”). See Attila. Cognate with Faroese and Icelandic Atli. As a given name also from atall (“fierce”) as a heiti for the god Thor, and a short form of names beginning with Atl- (e.g. Atlak, a variant of Aslak).
