Germanic languages origin
Source-reportedAs a first name mainly adopted in the 19th century, but also found in surnames like Aunola. Probably from Germanic given names with the component aun- (e.g. Old High German Aunobert, Aunefrid, Aunemund). Perhaps also interpreted as a masculine form of Aune (“Agnes”).
