Proto-Germanic origin
Source-reportedMeaning: “strong” + “battle”
From Proto-Germanic *Abrahildiz, a compound of *abraz (“strong”) + *hildiz (“battle”). As there is nothing to suggest that the first element was ever present in the West Germanic branch, it is likely the name originated from before the time that Proto-Germanic split up.
