Biblical Hebrew origin
Source-reportedFrom Classical Syriac ܕܘܝܬ (Dāwīt), an informal form of ܕܘܝܕ (Dāwīḏ), from Biblical Hebrew דָּוִד (Dāwîḏ). The final -թ (-tʻ) is seen also in Georgian დავითი (daviti), and Aghwan 𐔳𐔰𐕛𐔼𐔸 (davit). For the devoicing of final consonants in Aramaic see Lipiński.
