Old Norse origin
Source-reportedMeaning: “god” + “secret knowledge, rune”
Inherited from Old Norse Guðrún, through a younger Norwegian form in which the final /n/ was lost after nasalising the preceding vowel. The Old Norse name is from guð (“god”) + rún (“secret knowledge, rune”). Doublet of Gudrun (“female given name”). Compare Norwegian Nynorsk Guro, Danish Guro, Swedish Guro, Icelandic Guðrún and Faroese Guðrun (“female given name”).
