Biblical Hebrew origin
Source-reportedMeaning: “Yahweh is gracious”
From Hans (“male given name”) + -ina (“feminine name-forming suffix”). The suffix -ina is a less common variant of -ine. Names of this type became fashionable in Norway in the 18th century, having been transmitted through Danish from German, and were chiefly used when daughters were named after male relatives. The base name Hans is a German short form of Johannes, which comes via Ancient Greek Ἰωάννης (Iōánnēs) from Biblical Hebrew יוֹחָנָן (Yōḥānān, “Yahweh is gracious”). First attested in 1766 in Norway.
