Etymology in the sources
Source-reportedFrom ilma (“air”) + -ri. A Pre-Christian given name, revived as a given name in the 19th century, inspired by Ilmarinen, the skillful smith in the Kalevala. Has sometimes also been considered to contain an old sense of the word ilma, “god”, found in other Uralic languages but not any of the Finnic ones (like Finnish).
