Old Norse origin
Source-reportedInherited from Old Norse Ingiríðr, a variant of the fuller Ingifríðr. The first element is the divine name Ing, another name of Yngvi, while the second ultimately continues fríðr (“beautiful, fair”). Compare Icelandic Ingiríður and Faroese Ingirið (“female given name”).
