Old Norse origin
Source-reportedMeaning: “the peaceful one”
A modern revival of Old Norse kyrri (“the peaceful one”), the weak form of kyrr (“calm, peaceful”). The byname is particularly associated with Olav Kyrre, King Olav III of Norway. First attested in 1856 in modern Norway, as the second given name of Olaf Kyrre Wulfsberg. Compare Norwegian Nynorsk Kyrre and Faroese Kyrri (“male given name”).
