Etymology in the sources
Source-reportedA modern Norwegian formation. The initial element Magn- was probably taken from names such as Magnus or Magnhild, while final -ar follows an ending common in Norwegian male given names. First attested in 1855 in Norway. Compare Danish Magnar, Swedish Magnar and Faroese Magnar (“male given name”).
