Proto-Germanic origin
Source-reportedǪg- + -mundr. * The first part probably is the stem of Old Norse agi (“sharp point”), cognate to Proto-Germanic *agjō. * The second part is mundr, cognate to Old English mund (“protection”). Old Norse Agmundr is a younger variant.
