Compound of 御(み) (mi-, honorific prefix often emphasizing beauty) + 青(あお) (ao, “blue, green”), in the sense of the quality of an unchanging beautiful green in the face of anything, similar to an evergreen tree. The medial -s- may represent epenthesis between two vowels, or it may be cognate with Korean interfix -ㅅ- (-s-) used to mark possession, much like German -s-.
