Old Norse origin
Source-reportedMeaning: “one of two”
Inherited from Old Norse Sundri (“male given name”), of uncertain meaning. One interpretation analyses the Old Norse name as meaning “one of two”; another connects it with the Old Norse name element sunn- (“southern”). The older form Sundri is documented in Norway from approximately 1340, particularly in eastern Norway. The modern name has traditionally been associated especially with Telemark. Compare Danish Sondre and Swedish Sondre (“male given name”).
