Russian origin
Source-reportedEastern Finnish form of the Russian saint's name Терентий (Terentij), cognate to English Terence. Secondarily also a short form of Antero, especially in Western Finland. As a surname in Western Finland, probably instead from terä through place names (except in Teronen, where it likely reflects a short form of Antero).
