Meaning in the sources
Source-reportedMeaning: “dog force”
From *ᚉᚒᚅᚐ (*cuna) + Proto-Celtic *gustus (“force”). As the Primitive Irish form is attested in the genitive singular, it technically comes from Proto-Celtic *gustous. It is unclear whether the unstressed vowel of the final syllable was still contrastively long in Primitive Irish, but at any rate it did not merge with a as original unstressed short o did.
