Source-reportedMeaning: “win, complete”
From Proto-Lolo-Burmese *ʔoŋ¹ (“win, complete”); forms outside Lolo-Burmese, like Jingpho [script needed] (ʔōŋ, “to conquer, overcome”), are probably borrowed from Burmese (STEDT). Note also similarities to Old Chinese 贏 (OC *leŋ, “to win”) (which is constructed with a uvular *ɢ by Baxter and Sagart; uvulars in Proto-Sino-Tibetan seem to be dropped in Burmese).
