Source-reportedMeaning: “difficult; brazen, brave; heroic warrior”
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *alp (“difficult; brazen, brave; heroic warrior”). In Uyghur scribal tradition, this term is always written with one aleph (which is otherwise reserved for front-vocalic words) rather than the expected double-aleph. The latter is found in some civil documents and works from the post-classical period (c. 12th century and onwards).
